All the Movies I Own (and Two I’m Giving Away)

As I’ve mentioned before, I’m not a huge movie person, but there are a few movies that I’ve liked enough to buy over the years. Here are the DVDs currently on my shelf, plus two that I need to take to Goodwill at some point.

Clueless

I’ll spare you more gushing over my favorite movie and just ask that you click the link to read my post listing all the reasons I love it. Needless to say, if you haven’t seen Clueless, see it today.

Picture Perfect

Jennifer Aniston was the rom-com queen for awhile and as a Friends and romance lover, I saw most of her movies. But this one was my favorite. Probably because the hero is played by Jay Mohr. Aniston plays a woman in love with her playboy co-worker who’s advised by a colleague to pretend she’s dating someone so their boss will promote her. After posing for a picture with Jay Mohr’s character at a wedding, she tells everyone he’s her boyfriend but then after he goes viral for saving a little girl from a fire, she’s forced to ask him to play the role of the guy she’s dating. Naturally they fall for each other in the process. Jennifer is at her most charming and the easy chemistry between the two is great.

Girls Just Want to Have Fun

I wish I could remember how me and my sister discovered this gem of a movie but all I can guess is that we found it one day roaming the shelves of Video One, the VHS store near our house. It quickly became a favorite due to its great music and cool dancing sequences. The movie follows Jeanie, a girl who moves to Chicago with her family and attends a Catholic girls’ school. Her new friend Lynn goes with her to a tryout for a dance show that films in the city and Jeanie is paired with bad boy Jeff in the competition to see who gets the couple slot on the show. The two fall in love as they perfect their dancing with rivals trying to sabotage them along the way. I just love Jeanie and Jeff, but more importantly, the movie promotes girls’ friendship too. It also stars three very young up-and-comers, Sarah Jessica Parker, Helen Hunt, and Shannen Doherty.

Lady Bird

I’m going to be completely honest about why I own this movie: because Saorise Ronan and Timothee Chalamet have amazing chemistry. Even though their respective characters Lady Bird and Kyle have a relationship that goes down in flames, I love love love them together. They have such great chemistry and I pretty much only watch their scenes when I rewatch this movie.

The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants

Another movie that’s only on my shelf because of a single plot. No, I don’t care about the four girls and their friendship and their special jeans that magically perfectly fit all of their different body types. I only care about Bridget and the soccer coach she sleeps with. I do not recall his name but he’s hot and they have amazing chemistry.

Selena

I recently read a comment about this movie that said it was too sanitized and fluffy. And, in some respects, I agree. Selena really doesn’t go through all that much conflict minus when she starts dating her future husband, who’s in her band, and her father flips about it. Then there’s the brief bit of tension at the end when she realizes a good friend is stealing from her (followed by her death). But I still love this movie. The songs, Jennifer Lopez’s acting, and, of course, the love story between Selena and Chris.

The Cutting Edge

This movie involves ice skating, bickering, and a great hate-to-love romance. I was rewatching it recently and realized that not only do Doug and Kate not have sex in this movie, they only kiss once at the end! It’s such a tame eighties cheesefest.

Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights

This movie got horrible reviews when it came out but I don’t care. I love the chemistry between the two leads and I even like most of the dancing. The songs are good too.

A Royal Affair

The end of this movie is so depressing (the hero dies) so I only watch the first ¾, when the hero and heroine meet, fall in love, and have a baby. The love scene is super hot too.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire

I’m an unabashed Katniss and Peeta shipper and this movie has some of their best moments period.

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part One

Not as many good Peenis moments in this one but enough for me to own it (confession: this is actually a fifteen minute DVD ripped from my computer of the only Katnis/Peeta moments in the movie. I was not going to shell out money for a two hour movie I only wanted to watch fifteen minutes of).

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part Two

So many good Peenis moments in this one. Enough said. Or written.

The Mummy

Evelyn and Rick have so much chemistry and all the Egypt scenery is beautiful.

The Mummy Returns

This one doesn’t have quite the same gravitas as the first but it’s fun seeing Rick and Evelyn’s family.

Movies I’m Getting Rid Of

Wedding Crashers

I used to love this hilarious movie but realizing how many male rape jokes the movie contains has slowly turned me off it over the years.

The Exception

I saw a trailer for this and was so excited about the romance part. And it’s fine but the ending pissed me off so much I never want to watch it again.  And that’s why I don’t buy movies before watching them.
